Im -0 on this proposal.
I prefer to concentrate on other things and I have no need for
subdirectories of registry entries.
I usually end up with several portlet registry files per deployment, so its
never been a issue for me.

A while back I tried to write a registry service using OJB. You're welcome
to continue development on that one if you'd like
In future releases, I think registries such focus on the new standards in
this area, such as WSRP, UDDI, WSDL
