I agree with Mark. We can release and then have minor releases for documentation and bug fixes.

I think new drag-n-drop customizer and dbpsml enhancements really bring
Jetspeed to a higher level competitively with respect to the other
portals.

Last time I've heard, David didn't feel comfortable committing these yet.

i think its nearly ready. Before releasing 1.4 we should to do
the following things:

1) resolve all bugs (may not include fixing them)

My plan is to document all known bugs/issues. I am not aware of any show
stoppers. Are you?

2) improve the included themes for Jetspeed. We need more
professional looking themes. Need to make the default
configuration more refined and more useful.

Nice to have but IMO not a must for the final release.

3) merge David's Tutorial on Jetspeed with the current
documentation to create a complete documentation set.

That is David's call. I don't think he'll have time to do this in the near
future.

4) improve the documentation particularly with respect to PSML
management. Need sections a user guide section, admin guide, and
developers/customizers guide.

We'll need volunteers with good technical writing skills. Sometimes, developers are not the best technical writers (I know I'm not).

probably upgrading to turbine 2.3 would be a good idea for 1.5
along with David's and Cisco's improvements.

I agree. It's too risky at this point.

Boyd,

Do you have any time that you can contribute helping out with the final
release?

Do you still think to upgrade Tubine 2.3 before 1.4 release?

You are proposing an interesting release schedule. It sounds though as if
you don't feel that Jetspeed-1 is ready for a final release. Am I reading
this correctly?

Best Regards,

Mark Orciuch

IMHO, we tag b5 on Nov 1-ish, create b6 tree for David & Cisco's new
additions, set Dec 9 as the release date for b6, then Jan 6th as the
release date for the final release of 1.4. The new additions should give
us sufficient functionality until JS2.0 is released in Mid 2004. This
will also enable the development community to start putting their full
resources behind 2.0 development and only do critical bug/security fixes
to the 1.x tree.

In light of the new contributions, should we perhaps then
tag the CVS
and produce a 1.4b5? I would be fine with a 1.4b5.

Yes, Im fine with that.
I just want to point out that some one else is going to have
to handle
doing the release, since I can't do it while Im out of the
office I'd be happy to cut the release when I return 3rd week
of November Otherwise, Mark has been through 2 release cycles
and if he has time...
