Well, Jira is for report bugs and requesting enhancements. Ate was not being rude, he was just being honest and to the point. Jira is not a tool for asking general usage and/or development questions. For that you should just stick to the mailing list.
When you say you asked Steve Milek for help, did you email him directly? If so, I would highly recommend against you doing this in the future as it is poor form. Again, please stick to the mailing lists for things like this. If you don't get an answer after a day or to, try reposting. We try to keep up with the mailing lists as best we can, however sometimes things fall through the cracks. Be persistent and polite, you will eventually get an answer. Also, telling a core developer you don't want there help won't get you very far either.
