As usual, when I go to find the answer, I can't find it... doh!
Looking at my 1.3a1 code that sends the email, the only thing I can
see that I did was define the java system property mail.smtp.host in
the TOMCAT_OPTS (I am using tomcat).
EG (for windows)
set TOMCATS_OPTS=-Dmail.smtp.host=192.168.0.1
I think this was needed because of a bug/feature of the way the
Properties class worked and the overridden version that Jetspeed
uses.
We have our mailserver on a different machine from our development
work - which is why we needed this - do you have the mail server on
the same box as you run jetspeed?
