Sorry it's not for the public but I will be launching a site from home very soon. I will definately give you that url and even submit it to the Jetspeed central.

I would agree that it wasnt easy in the very first beginning, I would say we have a salad team of java/jsp/velocity folks, but I would also say Jetspeed is great. Thanks jetspeed folks, you are great. Sara. -----Original Message----- From: Ray Martin [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2002 3:03 PM To: 'Jetspeed Users List' Subject: RE: [opinion] Re: Jetspeed for professional sites; Is it ready Jetspeed is great stuff - good ideas, good implementations, good direction. And, as in all great projects, I am sure that great documentation will follow. BUT, currently the documentation is not sufficient to "hang your career" onto. This user's email list is a manner in which to learn some information about Jetspeed. But, the time you spend researching this information is prohibitive to a production environment. I started my project at the end of October 2001. I brought up the Unix server (loaded the operating system) and loaded the ASF tools and database. I researched the variety of ASF tools to best meet my customer's needs - a very difficult, convoluted, hard to comprehend set of overlapping composition of projects. Great stuff each, but difficult to derive a quick sense of direction. My customer happened to be Netscape 4.7 oriented - went ballistic when I mentioned the need to use 6.2 because of Jetspeed - which i did not know until far into the project. I had an agonizing less than three months of research into my customer's distributed data management web service applying Turbine, Velocity, Jetspeed and MySQL. Half was through January, the customer kicked my ass out. It had taken too long to produce results from their perspective. (I think they were slightly nuts - but, hey, it was their money (actually the taxpayers)) I had gotten most everything working with one major difficulty to overcome - could not save to the database (after consuming hours of study through the mail lists, I see that others had trashed their Object ID broker table - this was probably my case also) - not a Jetspeed issue, admittedly. The Jetspeed project/tool suite had consumed most of my time. For example, I found (not through documentation) in version 3.1 that default .pmsl was the place to produce your screen view. Then I had to change to version 3.2 because of a class loading problem I was having and that was the suggested fix. After loading the new version, I went again to the file, default.pmsl. I worked on it. I manipulated it. I beat myself to death trying to get my changes to have results. Finally, I found that the configuration files were pointing one directory (/en) deeper. There was a default.psml file in that directory and that was the one I should have been using - oh my, the hours that I had wasted. So, as you can see, my small opinion is that NO, using Jetspeed for a production environment is NOT a good idea. The documentation is just too minimal. I have probably stirred a bit of ire. And I must quickly agree that these are open source projects - contributions made by individuals and organizations. I need to contribute not complain. But, that does not change the fact that while contributing, I would not be completing my customer's short sighted - short suspense requirements. I hope to contribute - test, study, and document these open source projects - it will surely be a project to the future - not the one from which I am still scambling to find all of my body parts that my customer whacked off while I was attempting to use un-documented software. (And, I was so very very close to a working model, but the bell tolled...) good luck to all, Ray ---------- From: Brendan O'Bra[SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Reply To: Jetspeed Users List Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2002 1:39 PM To: Jetspeed Users List; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [opinion] Re: Jetspeed for professional sites; Is it ready Ok... I'll jump in from deep lurker mode to "defend" jetspeed, as it has served me well thus far... I use jetspeed on my website (I'm an ISP). We are 100% open source, linux, tomcat, jetspeed. http://www.pvbb.net So far, jetspeed has been very flexible and we are happy with it. I will say that the fact that I am a java developer has made it easy to work with. >>Brendan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Haresh Gujarathi" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Jetspeed Users List" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2002 10:13 AM Subject: RE: [opinion] Re: Jetspeed for professional sites; Is it ready > Hi Todd, > > Its a assuring sign that people like you are devoted to the open source > momentum. > > But I will say u are not getting my point. > > This discussion is not to criticize the Jetspeed development.
