I don't think uPortal is ready for prime-time yet. I have been evaluating both and although I think uPortal is a better engineered framework, it is missing some key functionality that is a necessity for an enterprise portal, such as the notion of roles linked with user permission. Although I think in the next release of uPortal (2.1 in Oct '02) it will be a real contender against Jetspeed, right now, Jetspeed is a better framework because of the complete functionality provided. Also, Jetspeed provides support for XML, Velocity, WML, and many other content formats, when uPortal only really support JSP and XML with limited support for WML. Even though I'm developing a portal for a university, I am choosing Jetspeed because of these reasons, but I'm developing with uPortal in mind also for future portability.
For more info on uPortal's missing features: http://mis105.mis.udel.edu/ja-sig/uportal/uPortal_new_features.pdf Hope that helps, Sergio --- Schnider Guido <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi everybody > > we are evaluating software for an enterprise portal. > In the final run > are jetspeed and UPortal > http://mis105.mis.udel.edu/ja-sig/uportal/. > At first look, they are quite similar in features, > but uPortal ist > already at release 2.0.1. > > What are the advatages of Jetspeed compared to > UPortal? > Has enybody compared those to befor? > Thanks for your comments... > > Guido > > -- > Guido Schnider/ mitLinks AG/ Limmatstrasse 291/ CH > 8005 Zrich > schnider[at]mitlinks[dot]ch/ Tel. 41 1 444 10 43 > /http://www.mitlinks.ch/ > > > > -- > To unsubscribe, e-mail: > <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > For additional commands, e-mail: > <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
