While opens source is indeed a collaborative effort of a community to be
successful there needs to be a meeting of minds at least half way. I can
attest to the significant undertaking trying to work with jetspeed. I
have spent many months and hours tracing out the pieces of jetspeed to
gain an understanding good enough to do something useful with the
framework. Unfortunately, we are still not where i feel we should be and
documentation would have made this a much more succesful effort.
Additional specific documentation would have allowed us to focus our work
and contribute to the community rather than simply trying to understand
enough to do something reasonable. We have a team of very talented
individuals and each has been frustrated. We are accustom to contributing
to open source efforts but this has been almost impossible. We continue
however to do our best and continue to move forward as we believe the
jetspeed framework is the correct path for portals. To gain acceptance
and build a community requires communicating what one has done or
accomplished in a way others can understand and build upon.

Thank you,
Sandra
