Hi Marie,

You may also want to check out Liferay (http://www.liferay.com) which is yet another 
open-source portal just like JetSpeed. Liferay is great especially if you are building 
a community portal since they have lots of pre-built portlets suitable for community 
building.

Also I would like to ask you what features do you want to implement on your community 
portal. I am doing a research on community portals for non-profits and would like to 
know if you wanted to share knowledge.
