I also set the environment variable in my XP box where 'JAVA_OPTS=-Xms100m -Xmx300m' One more important thing. I noticed when I started TOMCAT as an NT service, the environment didn't work well. I am running jetspeed with tomcat 4.0.6, in a win 2k box with 512 RAM. I get "horrible exceptions out of memory" errors. I have added CATALINA_OPTS=-server -Xms 64 -Xmx 256 to the catalina.bat file.
