Assume you are working with the Jetspeed Desktop.
We do *try* to respect the number of columns in a PSML layout, although
we have recently discovered that PSML is not providing enough
information to determine the number of columns and rows without an xpath
calculation over the XML returned via the getPage ajax api.
We are now looking into providing more exact information about rows and
columns sizes from the server side, to make the job easier for
javascript clients.
That said, I have no idea why your theme fails.
Maybe you could send us the vm or jsp theme...
