I didn't know about Oracle Portlets before I created Jetspeed. That leaves only
two situations... they borrowed from our idea or just came up with it
independently. I wouldn't rule out independently because it is somewhat
obvious. In fact I was kind of shocked to see Oracle Portlets in PCWeek about 6
months after I started Jetspeed :)

Epicentric has a similar API. I talked to their CEO/CTO a while back. They
were interested in collaborating or at least making our APIs portable but didn't
want to use Jetspeed itself because they believe that relying on Turbine was a
drawback... they just didn't understand the situation IMO.

They are scared because they don't understand it yet. Not many people get Zen
philosophy when they are first exposed to it either :). I think they believe
they will give away the house if they do OSS. ... of course if they play their
cards right they will make a LOT more money :)
