This is a really great way to look at it. But make sure you tell yourself the truth about the items. Don't live in fear over anything. It isn't worth it. I am getting ready to go through our bedroom closet & drawers again. I have done this many times before. But they are getting so packed that I can't get everything in them. So look out. Dh is the one who has the problem with letting go. Mary in LA, my dh is also a collector, a pacrat. I just hate it. I too have a privacy fence and I am so glad that I can't see all of his junk all the time. LOL
