Title: getting started
Pooh Bear,
It's hard to know how to get started. I was in an absolute mess. Had come back from overseas having got divorced, no career and two tax returns behind, statements I hadn't checked in 6 months, so on and so on.
What got me going was the 15 minute method, I set the timer for fifteen minutes and would work for 15 minutes. 15 minutes is not too hard to face.
When the timer went off, I would take a break even if I wanted to go on working. I would drink some apple juice, it was very hot summer, and read some books about decluttering. There is a very good book about Feng Shui decluttering, a very simple one to read by Antonia Beattie and Rosemary Stevens. I didn't feng-shui my room but the book helped me focus on what decluttering was all about, about moving forward and clearing the things holding me back.
I also bought a 68c exercise book and would keep random daily notes about what I wanted to accomplish. This was my decluttering journal. It contained all sorts of lists, to-do, to buy list, how to lists, whatever. It kept me focussed about the tasks at hand.
I ended up doing the 15 minute thing with the timer for all sorts of things: reading the net, exercising on my ex-bike.
I think no longer than 15 minutes. 15 minutes seems like nothing, it's easy to get started and you have a break to look forward to. This way I can start anything and once I get started I find I've overcome the biggest hurdle.
