Anything that is not used every day (or close to it) should be stored in the cabinets, pantry or whatever you have for storage. It only takes me a minute to wipe down my counters because I keep them very bare. All I keep out is the microwave, toaster & fruit bowl. A phone also sits on the living room side of one counter and a radio on top of my refridgerator, which is otherwise bare. I do not use an electric can opener, the manual one is in a drawer. I don't drink coffee often (tea drinker) so the coffee pot & filters are in a cabinet. On my sink I keep a stainless steel pump dispenser for dish liquid. All other cleaning things are under the sink. The paper towel roll hangs under a cabinet next to the sink. I can't stand to see a knife block or mug tree out on the counter accumulating dust. I'd have to wash the stuff before I could use it. If you don't have space in your cabinets to store the things that belong in the kitchen but not on the counter, well... you have to declutter the cabinets and get rid ofthe items that you don't really use. Unless you've already done that, there are probably things in there that you could do without. Hope this gives you some ideas of how to make it easier to keep up your kitchen.
