If by "worktops" you mean your kitchen counters, I have a suggestion.
Anything that is not used every day (or close to it) should be stored in the
cabinets, pantry or whatever you have for storage.

Thank you very much for your advice I will certainly do as you suggest. And have to admit there are mug trees x 2, knife block plus herbs and bottles of oil etc on the counters.
Also my coffee and tea things are usually out (I drink alot of tea)!!!! But that is not excuse.
Will let you know how I get on.
