Don't use the kind that contains really strong chemicals (where you have to wear rubber gloves). The kind that is made from baking soda (Arm & Hammer?) is safe. It's one of the few ways you can get the racks really clean since they have to come out during the self clean cycle because of the high heat. Used the baking soda kind for years on my old oven with no problems. Just got a new one (with the high heat and simmer burners and lots of neat features yippee) after the old one gave up the ghost, so haven't had to do it yet in this one.

Hi,
Does anyone know if you can use regular oven cleaner to clean a self-cleaning gas oven? I have a mess on the bottom and don't want to smoke up the house. It's to cold to open windows.
