Sherry & all - My promise to work with you all on Wednesday was derailed in a major way. I returned home from work on Wednesday to discover that my house had been burglarized for the 2nd time in 4 months... First time was early in December.
This time they stole my computer~ The police are certain it is the same people, and they expect to make an arrest shortly - a group of 3 teenage boys who live in the neighborhood. Apparently there have been 30 robberies in this area in the past year -something like 7 in the past week! Fortunately we are all okay and no major damage was done other than destroying the door they broke into. My kids are pretty upset, especially the 10 yo. Most of the stuff stolen has been theirs - video games, stereos, cds, etc. I still have some money from the last insurance settlement to replace their things, but probably can't buy a new computer right now. A friend that used to work with me is putting together a used computer that will work for now. We really need one at home for schoolwork. I am less concerned about the stuff, even the computer, than about our peace of mind. I don't want the kids to be afraid to leave home. I think that rather than take anymore chances I will have an alarm system installed. I've been checking it out already, and should be able to get one next week. We are leaving town for the weekend, but the neighbors and police will be watching the house. I brought a few things with me to store at work, so the kids won't have to worry about them. I'm amazed at my lack of concern about the "stuff"... it is primarily the invasion of privacy that upsets me. I guess that my feelings about things have changed since I've been decluttering. Everything that is gone can be replaced, other than peace of mind. Hopefully the alarm system will help a bit with that...
