Jodie -

Sorry, I didn't see your introduction because I went directly to the emails
about the computer virus.

It sounds like you've made a good start by getting rid of all those excess
clothes. Congratulations - give yourself a pat on the back for that big
accomplishment. It is important to announce and celebrate your victories -
and that's a big one!

There are several ways to go about this. As Nellie suggested, you can also
check out the Flylady website. Her methods are in line with what we do here,
but here you get personal feedback and support.

One thing both groups emphasize is "Baby Steps" - working consistently for
brief periods will make progress. In other words, don't make a huge mess by
trying to clean out every kitchen cabinet at the same time. Work on one at a
time and finish what you start. Another way to work is to set a timer for 15
minutes (or 30 - whatever you can manage) to work on something. Then take a
break and do something you enjoy.

Perhaps set a goal to go through one of those boxes each day, (or even 1 each
week) discarding (or donating) anything you don't really want or need. DO NOT
keep things *just in case* if you haven't seen them for 6 years - it is not
likely that you will need them. Keep only the ones that have true value to
you. If you find something that is a duplicate of what you already have, keep
the best one and donate the other.

As for the floppy disks - use a similar method. You could set a goal to look
at 2 disks a day and label them. Or do as many as you can in 15 minutes, then
stop. Eventually you will go through all of them.

It sounds like you are ready to face the problem - and that is the first
step. The only way to conquer clutter is to get rid of things you don't use
or love. It doesn't matter if someone gave it to you - or if you paid good
money for it (common excuses) - if you aren't using it and you don't like it
- don't keep it.

Once you start to weed out the excess, you can organize the things you keep.
Then you will be able to find things when you need them.

My personal goal is to have ONLY things that I use or truly enjoy. I want to
open my drawers, closets, cabinets and find exactly what I want and need -
without having to search through excess junk to do it.

I hope this gives you some ideas to get started without overwhelming you. If
you have any questions, please ask and we'll be glad to help. Let us know how
you're doing.

Diane
