Lakes State Authorities Impose a Curfew to Boost Security
 By Manyang Mayom

RUMBEK, Oct 28 (Gurtong) – The Lakes State authorities have imposed a
general state curfew following a series of inter – clan clashes.

The curfew hours have been set between 6pm and 6am in a bid to boost
security and to promote peace amongst the warring communities in the area.
All market centres have been ordered closed within the stipulated hours.

This comes in the wake of clashes last weekend in Rumbek in which five
 people were killed.

Lakes State police said that at least 30 people had been arrested by
Tuesday evening for disobeying the order. They are waiting arraignment in
court with possibilities of imprisonment or paying fines.

According to a Lakes State police source who requested anonymity,
government officials have been targeted, in retaliation, by cattle
raiders, who are angered by the curfew.

“We are not going to allow such lawlessness to prevail in this state since
it is the right of everyone to live peacefully and go about their
businesses without fear of being attacked. It is our responsibility to
maintain law and order,” said the police source.
