The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Atem Garang, denied
report that say the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the
National Congress Party (NCP) have reached an agreement on dropping
the memberships of southerners from the National Legislature.

Speaking to Radio Miraya, Garang said that it is very clear in the
National Interim Constitution that the membership of southerners in
the National Assembly and the Council of States ends on 9th July.

Earlier, the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ahmed Ibrahim Tahir,
had said that the memberships of southerners in the National
Legislature have been dropped, adding that the SPLM and the NCP had
agreed to it.

Addressing the press in Khartoum last week, Tahir had said that the
membership of southerners in the National Legislature would end by the
end of this month, but they will maintain their rights until 9th July.

Meanwhile, the State Minister of Justice, Lul Bol, has called on the
Presidency to intervene in stopping the decision taken by the Speaker.

Bol told Radio Miraya that the decision taken by the Speaker is
unconstitutional and contradicts the President's decision which says
that all the constitutional institutions should continue functioning
until 9th July.
