TORIT, 14th April, 2011 [Gurtong] – The Eastern Equatoria State’s
Secretary General for Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, Mr. Celsio
Ohisa shockingly stepped down late last month, said the SPLM Party
State Spokesperson Ms. Evelyn Lorot Lokorai.

According to Evelyn, Ohisa served as the SPLM State Secretariat
General, SG, after being elected democratically following the May 2008
SPLM State General Convention which was held in Torit.

On Monday the 28th of March, in a closed door State Liberation
Council’s meeting for the party that was held at Hotel Torit, Ohisa
who sat next to the chairperson, Louis Lobong Lojore decided to leave
his seat while joining other liberation members in the normal
membership seats.

The State SPLM Spokesperson who is also the Assistant Secretary for
Information & Culture, Ms. Lorot, explained to Gurtong in an exclusive
interview at SPLM State Secretariat office in Torit.

Mr. Felix Okanyi Remijo, the State party’s deputy chairperson was
immediately appointed by the Chairperson to serve in the capacity of
SG for 3 months after which elections for a new SG by SPLM State
Liberation Council will be held.

Following the March 28 liberation meeting, Governor Lobong who is also
the present Governor for the State has told the press that Ohisa’s
resignation was welcome by the party members after reaching a
consensus during the deliberations on thorny issues affecting the
system and smooth administration of the party within Eastern Equatoria
State.

“Felix Okanyi has been nominated to steer the office for three month
after which the council will meet again to elect a new state party
Secretary General,” He added.

Mr. Ohisa declined to elaborate to Gurtong the reasons for his
resignation; instead he decided to avoid conflicts between him and his
party members, especially his boss the SPLM State Chairperson Mr.
Louis Lobong if he revealed in depth.

However, Okanyi welcomes provisional nomination to the position and
promises to serve up to the higher expectation of the party.
