TORIT, 19th April 2011 – Eastern Equatoria State youth have pushed the
State Government to involve them in peace building process and other
sound activities so as to realise peace & economic development in the
State.

The State’s youth spokesperson, Mr. Okello Odongtoo Lawiri blames on
the Government for sidelining inclusion of the youth in the peace
process.

“ It’s important to engage the youth since they are the ones involved
in most activities at almost all levels especially at domestic or
family level, therefore, it won’t take long to see peace realised in
the State of Easter Equatoria, but only if the Government gives them a
chance,” Mr. Odongtoo said.

He added that youths constitute 2/3 percent of the total population
and justifiably contributed for the success of the just concluded 2011
Referendum.

In a bid to avoid mounting crimes in South Sudan, Ms Angelina Nabalu,
one of the youths in the State, urged the Government to give the youth
an exceptional priority by offering employment opportunities.

She said that, there were a higher number of youths loitering in towns
seeking for jobs with Diploma or Degree certificates and that
forgetting them would result into something regrettable in the future.

“Why do we make noise calling for graduates from neighbouring nations
while we have our own fresh graduates being left out of employment? Do
we mean ours do not perform and yet they all studied and graduated
from same class while at Diaspora?” Nabalu asked.

A section of South Sudanese youths have complained that they were
utilized during two decades of civil war contributing to the present
peace deal be attained successfully and therefore there is no way the
Government should forget them.

Odongtoo urged the Government to increase their participation more
especially in decision-making and allow them to become agents of
change.

Meanwhile, the entire community of EES called for an immediate
peaceful coexistence of among warring communities in the most parts of
the State, admitting that unless youths are engaged in peace
initiatives we will not achieve the goal.
