JUBA, 21st April, 2011 [Gurtong] – The technical committee tasked to
review the 2005 Interim Constitution has finally completed drafting of
the 2011 South Sudan Transitional Constitution and handed it yesterday
to the GOSS president, Salva Kiir Mayardit, Mirayardit.

President Kiir said that after this stage, the document is to be
shared this with other political party leaders and then the Council of
Ministers of the Government of Southern Sudan, after which it will go
the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly.

“The time was short for you to do this but you managed to come up with
a document to start our way from here,” President Kiir Said.
He added that, “It was not easy to fight the war so we should not
expect everything to be easy for us. We must struggle because we want
the coming generations to remember this.”

The president regretted that the fact that other political parties
withdrew from this committee but he was quick to correct any doubts
that it was not intended to discriminate anybody.

“It was the work of the government to appoint this technical committee
to review the constitutional and amend the articles that were supposed
to be amended.” He affirmed.

Kiir said that those who left the committee and resigned should learn
that it was not intended to discriminate any political party; he
warned that all accusations must stop.

“We don’t want all these accusations and counter accusation to
continue if we are going to immerge as a young nation. We should be as
united as possible to overcome all our problems.” He said.

The Chairperson of the Committee, John Luk Jok delivered the document
to the President.

“Am here to present the accounts of the Committee’s work, the
recommend draft Interim Constitution of Southern Sudan 2005, It shall
now be known as the Transitional Constitution of Southern Sudan 2011,”
John Luk read.

According to Luk, the Interim Constitution and institutions
established after it will continue even after 2011.
