Clement Wani Kong's Urging Government To Import Food Item
News from Sudan Radio Service
10 June 2011—(Juba) —The speaker of Central Equatoria State
Legislative Assembly has warned that the government of Southern Sudan
should begin importing food to avoid further increase of food prices.

Napatali Hansen Gale said on Wednesday said the situation might worsen
because the countries supplying food are almost in crisis.

He made this remarks at the opening of the Assembly third session on Wednesday.

[Hansen Napatali] “The countries we are relying on are in crisis
almost now. In Kenya, In Uganda, all of them want food and we rely on
them for food. What will happen when they bloc their way. We already
have the experience of what is happening between us and the northern
Sudan. The government should begin to thinks about importing food to
supplement the market. For a hungry nation is a weak nation. I urge
our government to embark on empowering our local peasants to upgrade
them with modern implements which I know they can do to avert such
short coming.”

Prices of food and non- food items including fuel have shot up in
recent weeks following restrictions and insecurity in the north-South
border.
