Government In Blue Nile Says Will Not Succumb To War
News from Sudan Radio Service
8 June 2011—(Damazine) —The government of Blue Nile state says that it
will not succumb to war but vowed to protect it civilians against any
threat from the Sudan Armed Forces.

The minister of Ministers’ affairs in Blue Nile state, Ai Bunder Asisi
spoke to SRS on Tuesday from Damazine.

[Ali Bunder] “The negotiations will resume because since the 31st of
May our negotiation team should have been in Addis but when we heard
that the President gave an ultimatum, we knew it was a declaration of
war. At the same time we put our forces on standby everywhere to
respond to any attack but we were not going to fire any bullet and we
were not going to strike because we are on defense position, but if we
were forced and SAF attack us we would have responded immediately”.

Last month, the Sudan Armed Forces gave an ultimatum to the SPLA to
pull out of all Northern borders an attempt which angered most
residents in the Nuba Mountains who saw it as an act of aggravating
war.

According to the CPA, a popular consultation was supposed to be
conducted in Blue Nile and South Khordofan state in order to determine
the political future of the two regions.
