The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS), has called for the
immediate release of six of its national staff, who were arrested on
Wednesday from Kadugli airport. The six were arrested while they were
being relocated to Wau, a statement from UNMIS said.

Condemning the arrest of the six by Military Intelligence, UNMIS said
it violated the Status of Force Agreement (SOFA), which was signed by
the Government of Sudan. The agreement states that the Government is
obliged to present the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-
General with evidence prior to taking any legal action against any
UNMIS staff, national or international, including arresting them.

UNMIS is very concerned about the safety and security of the arrested
staff members, the statement added.
