WAU, 28th June, 2011 [Gurtong] - Western Bahr el Ghazal State council
of ministers tabled the South Sudan’s 2011 Nobel Peace prize
presidential award bill to the honourable members for endorsement on
Monday.

Due to the excellence performance of the president of the new Republic
of Southern Sudan (to be recognized by June 9th), H.E. Salva Kiir
Mayardit for his 5 years term in the office, the State Government of
Western Bahr el Ghazal, under the leadership of Brig. General Rizik
Zackaria Hussan has vowed to award the president with the Nobel Peace
Prize.

In accordance with the provisions of schedule C read together with
Article 53 and 54 of the interim constitution of Western Bahr el
Ghazal State, 2008, this bill was drafted by the Council of Ministers,
then tabled before the State Legislative Assembly for perusal and
award to H.E Cde. General Salva Kiir Mayardit.

The bill may be cited as the Nobel peace prize 2011 and shall come
into force on the date of its signature by the State Governor Hon.
Rizik Zackaria Hussan.

During the reading, Governor Hussan said that the purpose of the Bill
was to provide for the creation of a peace prize to be awarded to
General Kiir Mayardit in the fourth coming celebrations of the 9th
July Independence Day as an honour to him.

The peace prize shall be awarded to H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit for the
following reasons:-
“Most of the Sudanese (Northern and Southern) thought that the passing
away of Cde. Dr. John Garang de Maboir signalled the end of the SPLA/M
but, the emergence of Cde General Salva Kiir Mayardit turned out to be
the true continuation of what the South Sudanese had hope to achieve
for more than 50 years” said in the prize Bill draft.

This had been so because of Cde General Salva Kiir Mayardit’s keenness
and dedication to promote peace and stability to the people of
Southern Sudan that have just come out from a protracted conflict.

The Bill described that throughout the last six years of the interim
period, South Sudan administration has overcome many challenges
ranging from communal conflicts to verbal provocation triggered by the
coalition partner, the NCP.

Kiir’s tolerant and accommodative approaches enable him to be a
restrain from all kinds of provocative moves and instead he worked
toward uniting the communities in South Sudan and ensured the
realization of the dreams of the martyrs who lost their lives upon
over two decades of the civil war.

The Nobel Peace prize draft said “through Kiir’s efforts, he has been
instrumental in bringing about the radical change in the mentality of
the Sudanese people as shown by the emergence of the concept of the
new Sudan which indicated the symbol of unity among South Sudanese in
particular and the marginalized people in general.”

“Through his popularity and charismatic character, he managed to win
the respect of the Army (SPLA) and united all the Southern military
and political leadership under one entity” the draft bill quoted.

At the Western Bahr el Ghazal State level
H.E. Cde. Salva Kiir Mayardit has always been an icon for the people
of WBGS to rally behind the SPLA/M principles which are evident in the
peaceful co – existence of the various ethnic groups in the State.

His direct supervision and follow-up of the State police provided
security and good governance for WBGS as well as his strong support
during the registration, elections and referendum voting process
culminated in the democratically elected government and unanimous of
the citizens of the State for cessation of South Sudan from the north.

The principles of taking development from the town to the rural areas
can be seen in the development of the ongoing projects at the sub
County headquarters.

Considering the general feeling of the people of WBGS, the above are
just a few reasons for support which we believe qualifies Gen. Salva
Kiir Mayardit to be awarded the peace prize. He has also managed to
steer the ship well up to the shore although many difficulties that
rocked the boat.

“The awarded Nobel peace prize by Western Bahr el Ghazal State
Government to the president will be sent to the Southern Sudan
Legislative Assembly for final endorsement,” said Andrea Mayar Acho,
the State speaker.

While speaking to Gurtong correspondent in Wau, Hon. James Giir Wol
and Hon. Paulino Apinyi Akol said that, the decision made by the State
government to award president Kiir is welcome by all the State
Honourable Members, describing this as good way to thank the
president.
