Dut Makoi Kuok tendered in his resignation letter yesterday to the State Governor Hon. Chol Tong Mayay. The resignation dated 21/6/2011 allegedly accuses the government of sabotage and undermining his advice particularly the cabinet as well the Governor.
The governor and council of ministers have not yet discussed over the resignation letter. Official sources in State secretariat office affirmed that there is no official notification that comrade Dut Makoi had resign because no official letter had reached the governor’s office or secretary general. The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) State acting secretary Malou Moses Majok said that the resignation of the political adviser was un-procedural. Moses said that, “The resignation of the adviser to me is unprocurable because he needs to resign in correspondence with someone he delegated to write his resignation; he is suppose to contact the party that gave him that task before he decides.” The ex-adviser affirmed to the media that he will still be loyal to the SPLM party. “I therefore remain committed to SPLM obligations and duties at any time if the party chooses me whether voluntarily or in services that need my attention. My resignation would be more acknowledgeable to my long services to the movement in different capacities and responsibilities,” Makoi said. According to official sources, the ex-adviser had been detained in a hotel in Juba following failure to pay accommodation bills. The hotel manager needed 6,000 SDG for his accommodation. The Governor of Lakes State refused to cover the bills that could have facilitated his resignation. The resignation letter stated that ‘As I expressed in the last SPLM caucus meeting chaired by Cde, Daniel Awet Akot, I felt disappointed in the way security is handled. And as a personal contribution I subjected my life as done by my patriotic and visionary comrades to many difficulties and hardships in the struggle to achieve and realize peace, prosperity, liberty and fundamental freedom, may your authority relief me to pave the way to someone who may be useful to you’. In April 21, 2011 Lakes State Governor Tong issued a decree relieving his strong political adviser Marko Chol Maciec without charges and replaced him with Dut Makoi Kuok who has also resigned. During the swearing in ceremony on April, Dut promised to device ways that would keep Lakes State government strong politically. Soon after his resignation, the ex-adviser told press that his appeal to Lakes State community, Executive, Legislatures and the Judiciary was not to have bad preferment.
