By Gabriel Mayom RUMBEK, July 22nd, 2011 [Gurtong] - Authorities in Lakes State have confirmed receipt of the new South Sudanese pounds currency yesterday. Government officials from Lakes State government serving in various security sectors arrived at Rumbek airport to receive the new currency. Among the top security officials was the Lakes State commissioner of police General Saed Abdulatif Chawul Lom and members from the National Security Services, Public security and more security personnel in black uniforms. Speaking to the press at the of Nile Commercial Bank premises, Angelo Makuac, the Director General in the Lakes State Ministry of Finance said that the Republic of South Sudan had achieved a great goal by introducing the new South Sudanese pounds. He affirmed that Lakes State civil servants working in various institutions will receive their July salaries in new South Sudanese pounds. “I would like to tell the people of Lakes State... we have now received our money and have brought them to Nile Commercial Bank.” This is the first time Lakes State Government is seeing the new South Sudanese pounds. The Lakes State civil servants will received their July salary in new currency replacing the Sudanese Pounds as affirmed by the Government of South Sudan’s caretaker Minister of Finance.
