Craig,

This seems more than ok.

You get the port number from elsewhere? I mean will the name of the interface change when you reboot it?

is maxIPInt fixed? in the Host OS? or is dinamic ?

What about the ifType of the interfaces in the IF-MIB is it useful?

Does the syslog messages (if any) for this interfaces come with "Port 1" as the interface ?

Will the indexes change when you reboot it? if yes, you will need to modify verify_interface_number poller too.

Thanks,
Javier

Hello Javier,
I have had to make some changes to the snmp_interfaces discovery
plugin for Alteon interfaces.

The ifTable has two types of interfaces. The first is like the switch
controller (sc0) in the old Catalysts. They are logical interfaces with
IP addresses. The second sent are the physical ports. As an added
bonus, the physical ports have the same ifDescr.

By default the table would look like this
ifIndex | ifDescr | Description | Actual Port
  1 | net0 | | Logical IP interface
  257 | utp ethernet (10/100) | | Physical port #1
  258 | utp ethernet (10/100) | | Physical port #2
  259 | utp ethernet (10/100) | | Physical port #3
  (etc)

I now check for a webos device and if found a function is called to fill
in the ifDescr and ifAlias arrays, with
  list ($ifDescr, $ifAlias) = webos_info(....);
It checks that the index is below the maxIPInt snmp value
and if so modifies ifDescr to be "Port " $index-maxIPInt
There is also a private ifDescr which is where the ifAlias gets
its info

The table looks like
ifIndex | ifDescr | Description | Actual Port
  1 | net0 | | Logical IP interface
  257 | Port 1 | Link to bb | Physical port #1
  258 | Port 2 | | Physical port #2
  259 | Port 3 | | Physical port #3
  (etc)
If this is ok, ill send you the patch.
