Just to get it right:
* when AD is on, jffnms constantly "discovers" the interface to check
for new services, resulting in the observed name changes
* when I switch AD off, no name changes are detected (as they aren't
checked any more), but the polling for data still continues?

What is the difference between AD and polling? Specially concerning this
 informational data like names etc.?
What is the difference between Automagic and Standard?
