This is all in a local net. My lappy is jffnms and the switch is one ip up from the server. The error "appears" to be a timeout? I'm not in the office now ... I can vpn in and do whatever though, should you need any other info.

No, a 3560G is a pretty modern switch so that is ok. Do you have the right TFTP server IP address for your host? Does that host have a running TFTP server?
