Feel free to create an authentication backend with your ldap server
and a user using it at my development installation:

  http://www.magma.com.ni:1443/nms/

However please inform me in that case, since I might switch of that
URL at any moment without previous notice.

Note that there is a problem with php-ldap/openldap and TLS. It seems
to me, that if the client and server certificate are not set up with a
complete valid certificate chain php-ldap just tells you "could not
connect to server". Setting "TLS_REQCERT allow" in
/etc/ldap/ldap.conf does not help.

By now I use the plain ldap protocol at the installation at work,
where all user data is inside an ldap tree, however this situation is
bugging me enough to wade through the php-ldap source some day, unless
somebody enlightens me hopefully light years before that moment.

I hope so too, since it would spare me maintaining the patches
separately.
