It could be a race condition but I'm not sure exactly how it is
occuring. Do you ever see this problem running the poller on those
interfaces manually?

Is it consistent? In other words these devices are always down?
Is it all devices or only some?

Do you have a reasonably aggressive tmpreaper going on that
might be deleting the files?
