It's lvm2, which I have been successfully using for some years not just on this machine but on others as well. One other thing to note is that all of the filesystems on this machine are JFS (except /boot). The filesystem impacted is the second-largest and second-busiest JFS filesystem. The largest and busiest JFS filesystem uses LVM as well. Other JFS filesystems (/var, etc.) do not use LVM. I have never had any problem with the other JFS filesystems.
