This is not specifically related to jfs, I've just got this nagging
doubt that it might be (somehow):

I've got a Makefile where part of an instruction sequence looks like
this:

target:  source
        mv source otherplace
        4-5 instructions that work on <otherplace>

I've been getting weird results and errors, so I added a test:

target: source
        mv source otherplace
        test -f source && false

Very surprisingly - to me anyway - this actually fails every now and
then.  Not frequently, but enough to be a problem.  I've got a feeling
this may be a filesystem problem.  Can anyone explain why the above
would fail?
