It sounds I have a similar setup as Daniel:
- 1x 300GB + 2x 250GB hard drives (all SATA)
- System with ext3 directly on a partition of the 300GB harddrive
- 3x 250 GB as RAID5 using LVM2/dm devided into different partitions
with JFS to store my data (mainly movies and music since it's my home
desktop)

I set this system up around 1.5 years ago and never had problems with
it. So I wouldn't name me an LVM2/dm expert. Since it is a home
desktop it never has high load on the file system.

I always use the most recent kernel release and from time to time I
update my Debian installation which should update the administration
tools. Again, I never had problems after these steps.

I already used JFS (without LVM2/dm) on my old desktop and never had
bad experiences related to JFS.
