 An incredibly minimal risk if they come from a trusted source.   If you don't 
trust me, that's just fine, but I do encourage people to feel perfectly free to 
open attachments from individuals they know, even as cyber acquaintances, and 
more particularly so if their antivirus does what 99+% of them do these days, 
scan it before opening.

It really doesn't help to encourage too much caution any more than it does to 
encourage none.  There is a happy medium.
