I'd agree with you, save for two factors -- first, there is a lag time between when a virus comes out and when the virus scanners get out the detection codecs out for it, so that window is a prime example of a time when the email scanning isn't going to catch it. Second, that window is also when trusted sources become potentially infected sources. As someone who spent several days running around from desk to desk dealing with virii that just bloomed, (and especially in systems running MS Exchange during the "Love Bug" virus) I'm intimately familiar with just how much damage can be done in those short times. No thanks. I'd also like to point out that the lone virus I've caught in the past ten years was from a website referred by a trusted source. So I'm going to stick with "trust but verify" for my own peace and comfort, thank you.
