Many of us have found the update method you used here unreliable and prefer,
instead, to download and save the current JAWS release from the FS website. Not
only do these downloads lead to more dependable installations, they also enable
you to perform future repairs.

Briefly, to repair, you place a copy of the release you're currently running on
your system in the C drive, then open the run window with Windows-r, then type
in following command, followed by enter. Note that this command will change
depending on your version and release number:

C:\ J17.0.1377enu-x64.exe /type repair

As for the message you received when you tried to install the update, it does
seem specific: that your current installation needs a repair. To be sure that
all is well, you may want to run a repair of this release before installing the
current one. For this, you'll need to download the file for your current
release from the FS website, unless it's already on your system.

Subject: Trying to update Jaws

Hi,

I used the check for updates and Jaws found an update for me to install. In the
midst of installation, I received an error message which said try to repair the
older installation and try again.

How do I repair the old installation? I have Jaws 17 now.

Sincerely,

Lauren
