I definitely would not use OCR software on something sensitive like taxes. If the OCR software produced inaccurate results, when I thought they were accurate, then there is the possibility that the IRS would require me to send in a revision. So, what I would do is what Aaron said: request as many forms as I could electronically, and have a family member read the rest to me. My family member would be my "reader". I would trust a family member over a third party reader.
