Hi Brad, I am like you. I started using a laptop keyboard before a desktop as well. When I started working, I changed their desktop to the laptop layout so I could use the caps lock and other commands that I like when using a laptop. I can keep my fingers on the alpha numeric keyboard without having to go over to the numb pad. It is so much easier. Give it a try, some of you, and I think you would like the commands. Have a great one.

I started with a laptop when I first got JAWS, so now that I have a desktop, I still use the laptop keyboard layout because it's what I know. As for the Applications keys, my Thinkpad actually doesn't have one, so I use the substitute which someone on this list kindly shared with me--shift F10. As Jean says the key left of the right control key is the context menu key, or applications key, which I use all the time. I avoid the laptop keyboard like the plague and use an external keyboard on my laptop all the time. I refuse to learn two sets of JAWS commands. There have been recent references in different threads to "the applications key" and I have no idea what it is, or at least that's not the terminology I'm familiar with for it if it turns out I use it all the time.
