Hello Fellow Listmembers, Does anyone know of a feature in JAWS where a user can specify the role of an item on a web page? For example: a web site has the word "Search" on the page, and navigating to "Search" using JAWS and pressing Enter results in the Search panel becoming visible - does JAWS have a feature to mark "Search" as a button or link?
I am aware of the "Custom label" feature, which could be used to have it read as "Search button" or "Search link" but it would not be available using navigation quick-keys and it would not appear in a links list. JAWS has a feature called "Window Class Reassign" that can basically do this for components of Windows applications, but it doesn't seem able to change the role of an element on a web page. Obviously it's ideal if the developer resolves this issue on their side, but this would be a useful feature for situations where the developer is unwilling or unresponsive to accessibility improvements/changes.
