the notes I have when I used Word 2007:
press CTRL shift g and route jaws to pc, CTRL home to the top, and
down arrow until you hear what you are looking for.
If not, press the alt key to bring up the ribbons, right arrow until you
arrive to the review ribbon and tab until you hear word count and press
spacebar.
I think it also works in 2010 and 2013.
