Hi Holly,

I am a JAWS user and use Moodle quite a bit, as it is the LMS we use here at
the University of Montana. I have also been a member of the Moodle
Accessibility Collaboration
Group<http://collaborate.athenpro.org/group/moodle/> for the past several years.

Moodle is highly customizable at the course level, so there are a lot of ways
that the accessibility of the course can be affected by an instructor. Moodle
also has no control over any documents (word, powerpoint, pdf) that are
uploaded into the course.

That being said, Moodle itself is by default pretty accessible with JAWS. There
are some features, such as the standard forums, which still pose issues to JAWS
users - however there are usually alternatives (such as the accessible Advanced
Forum plugin) that can help users get around these issues.

Feel free to email me off-list if you want to discuss this further or if you
have any specific Moodle questions.

Subject: Moodle with JAWS - nice combo?

Hi List,
I'm new. I called Freedom Scientific tech support to check, before enrolling
my 11th grade braille-using student in online chemistry, if JAWS played nicely
with the underlying platform upon which the online course is offered, Moodle.
John at FS tech support had never heard of Moodle, and couldn't offer any
advice about JAWS ability to interact with it. Has anyone here ever taken a
Moodle-based online course using JAWS? Thanks for any opinion. -Holly, a
newbie
