Dan:

I actually have considered NVDA as another alternative, so I appreciate this
suggestion.

Since it is also free, I may give it a try as well, perhaps on a computer
that I don't use too frequently at least for the time being.

Tom,

As a general rule, there is no conflict between screen readers. They merely
reside in the computer.

Also, after years of working with various screen readers, might I suggest
NVDA. Unfortunately eloquence cannot be used with it, but the Microsoft
voices aren't too bad.

I have tried several times over the years to really get into window eyes,
including the latest version with MS Office. I've found its control panel
to be confusing. Also, I find it to be a little clunky on the web.

That's just my two cents based on experience. Others here may feel
differently.

Subject: Jaws To Window Eyes

Hello, again.

In an attempt to have an alternative to Jaws, I'm seriously considering
putting Window Eyes on at least one computer here.

However, I have heard from several sources that having two screen readers on
the same computer can create real issues, if things are not done properly.

Also, can I configure Window Eyes to work with Elloquence, which is what
Jaws currently uses?

Finally, I'd like to know how much of a learning curve is going to be
involved with learning to use Window Eyes, especially since I have been a
Jaws user for about the last 20 years.

My time to learn a new speech screen reader is limited, although I will
certainly try to do so if it would be in my best interest.

If this post is considered to be "off topic" for this list, I want to
apologize in advance to the moderator and other list members. I simply
don't know where else to ask this question, given the various e-mail lists
to which I belong.

Sincerely,
Dr. Tom Behler from Michigan
