If I understand correctly, you appear to be skipping the step of unzipping the
file after saving it. If that is the case, you should find the files work
properly once properly unzipped.

I find constantly going back-and-forth between documents and possibly copying
and pasting passages wears down my system, so I'm not surprised that yours
eventually begs for mercy. It's possible that unloading and reloading JAWS will
help. Otherwise, I find I reboot at least once a day because I, too, do a lot
of work on my files.

I'm afraid I can't offer any tips on using OpenBook. I'm sure someone else will
chime in. With OmniPage, the process couldn't be simpler.

Adrien, Sorry wasn't clear on the PDF. Three 40 page PDF's were in a zip
file. The zip file was attached to an email.

I could access the PDFs by opening the zip file while still attached to the
email.

At this point I could arrow to any of the PDFs and hit enter to open it.

However once the zip file above was open I saved the PDFs to my hard drive.
I closed the zip file and closed the email the PDFs came in. I then went to
the folder the PDFs were stored in on my hard drive and clicked on them one
by one. Nothing happened. None of the PDFs would open or respond to the
enter key in any way.

I then reopened the email, zip file, and clicked on the PDFs as needed.
They all opened and worked fairly well.

On and off I have been using these PDFs. A PDF session would typically be
four to six hours. Reading the PDFs and alt-tabbing to Word to make
commentary. A lot of switching back and forth happened before Word would
stop responding to arrow keys.

Starting yesterday and today I noticed the repeated lines while in the
middle of using say_all in the PDFs.

Perhaps the zip file is not opening properly. I'm not sure. I hope there
is some kind of fix. I will try your suggestions.

Will try maximizing PDF window.

I've haven't used OpenBook to convert PDFs, a few instructions would be
helpful.

Yes, the Word doc is saved upon every commentary addition.

Thanks

Andre,

I'm puzzled by what you're doing here and why you're encountering certain
problems, such as your inability to open a saved PDF file from the hard
disc. I'll give you some thoughts in case they're at all helpful, but may be
you could post again with more detail about the task you're performing in
case anyone can give you more ideas.

First, make sure you've maximized the window of each document. Thus, before
reading the PDF file with "say all," press alt-spacebar followed by x to
maximize the window.

Second, all PDF files are different and differently accessible, depending on
how well they are tagged, etc. I automatically convert PDF files with my OCR
program, OmniPage 18. You might have OpenBook or some other device that
performs this function.

Third, did you save the Word document before working with it?

Hi all.
I am working to and from Word and a PDF. Just reading the PDF and making
commentary in Word.

Word works well for some time. Then stops responding to the arrow keys.
Just closing Word and reopening it does not solve anything. However
shutting down and rebooting the computer does work. But only for a time.

The PDF is opened from an email attachment. It would save to disc, but,
wouldn't open from the hard drive. The only way to open the PDF is fron the
email attachment.

Also when using say_all in the PDF. It would sometimes repeat several lines
in the middle of reading a section before continuing.

Any ideas?
