I'm not sure if my DVD is to blaim for this, or if it's my drive. This is the oddest thing I've ever seen, though with a DVD optical drive.

So, here's the thing... I just upgraded to JFW 15 at the beginning of this month. FS shipped me out a JAWS 15 DVD upon my request. I was trying to install the US english, and spanish Vocalizer voices. Yes, I'm perfectly aware that they are up on the FS web site under the downloads area. I totally get that 100%. I just figured, why go through the trouble downloading them, if they're already on my DVD. So, I popped the DVD in my system. Well, the dad blame thing won't read! Try as I may, it just will, not, read. I took the disc out, had a sighted person inspect it for finger prints or scratches. Absolutely nothing! Nodda! The sighted person even told me there was no dirt, no dust, nothing. The DVD was clean as a whistle! It couldn't have been in better condition if you wanted it to be. So, I took it over to my computer in my recording studio, and popped it in the drive there. I just wanted to see for definite! if it was indeed the media. In that drive, it spun up, and it read flawlessly. So, I took out the disc, and using a barely damp, notice, I said barely damp! I did *not!* say barely wet... I'm not stupid! Just using a barely damp cloth, I very very gently cleaned the disc working in a clockwise circular motion working from the inner ring outward, as to insure I didn't streek the disc. Once I made sure the disc media was thoroughly cleaned, I put it back in the drive I used initially. Again, it won't read. I thought perhaps, being that tower has two CD drives, maybe I put it in the wrong one, and that the one I put it in was just the CD writer, and wouldn't read DVD's. When I swapped it to the other drive, it didn't read there either. So, it's very obvious that it's not an issue of putting it in a non DVD readable drive. So then, I took the disc out, and even though it wouldn't work on this OS, duh, I totally get that, just for sh**s and giggles, I put the disc in my polly-carbon mid 2010 13 inch macbook. Boom, it mounted to my desktop, and came up in my Finder with absolutely no issue at all. I then tried it in my Macbook Pro late 2012 13 inch system. Again, it came up beautifully! Finally, for one more test, I put it in my new Windows 8.1 Asus laptop. Again, it came up flawlessly. I started thinking, well, maybe the CD drive on that first initial system is just going bad, God forbid. I mean, it is an old Dell Demension system running XP that was bought in 2005, maybe the tail end of 2004, but I'm almost positibe it was 2005. Anyway, so anything's possible, especially at that old of age. So, I tried a completely different DVD. I basically popped a store bought Windows 7 DVD in the drive. This wasn't a burned copy. It's the original boxed retail disc. That read perfectly in the system. No issue at all. Just to be sure the drive was in good health, I went through the enbtire installer up until the final press of the enter key that would have started installing Windows. Obviously, I didn't wanna do that, so I aborted the process, but I guarantee, had I hit the enter key, it would a started with no problem at all. So then, I took the disc out, plugged an external USB CD/DVD drive into the tower and popped in the JAWS 15 DVD. Again... that read gorgeously! So, what the hell gives! Pardon my language. I'm totally flabbergasted! I'm striking totally out here. I have no freaking idea! Has anyone seen this, where some DVD's just simply put, will, not, read? on some drives regardless, try as you may, what you do?

This is the weirdest thing!

Chris.
