It was through the method I described in my original post using the settings center. The error in my approach turned out to be the name of the application. I was using the application's name, but I discovered it's only one of the names that application uses. By starting out looking down the names of all 212 applications shown in the "sleep" applications list, I came across another candidate. Keeping that highlighted, I went through the procedure to disable sleep, and this time JAWS came to life. My thanks to Mike B and Dave Carlson for their creative thoughts on and off list. Mike's reminder that the apply button shows up in this procedure only when a change is to be made led me to this solution. Since "disable" produced no apply button in the application I'd highlighted, it finally occurred to me that the larger application might have more than one sub-application, if that makes any sense. No wonder the list is so long. I don't think I've explained this very clearly. If anyone is confused and interested, I'll gladly post the steps I took. -----Original Message----- From: Jfw [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Adrian Spratt via Jfw Sent: Friday, June 06, 2014 12:05 PM To: The Jaws for Windows support list. Subject: Returning speech to a program in sleep Hi. When installing a certain application on my system, the company's techy set JAWS to be silent when it ran. I would like JAWS to speak there. I've tried two methods to undo the sleep setting for that application. One is via the settings center. In another window, I select the application name, go to sleep, select disable and click on OK. It doesn't bring back speech. My other method was to open the application, then press the JAWS key+spacebar/s command. A few tries at this also made no difference. Any ideas for another method the company rep might have used and how to undo it? Or am I missing something in the steps I list Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
