Does that apply to libraries as well? A library seems to be just a specialized folder, and I've been flirting with the idea of creating a sub within my photo library, maybe more than one, to separate the photos by subject.

You will land in an edit field with the words "New folder" already filled in. Just delete that or start typing the desired folder name and press enter.
